When you colour and re–bond your hair, it is important to ensure that you use the proper after care product so that your hair remains shiny, moisturized and looks healthy. Chemical treatments can damage your hair cuticle and as a result your hair will become dry, less smooth and dull. Always use a good conditioning shampoo followed by a conditioner every time you wash your hair.

Choose a shampoo that is designed for normal hair. Just like your skin, your scalp produces sebum which is natural oils that protects your scalp. Sebum is responsible for attracting dirt and debris to your hair, and may also be responsible for dandruff. Regular cleansing of the scalp and hair to remove sebum is important for maintaining a healthy scalp. Always ensure you condition your hair regularly, and apply conditioner or treatment products from ear–level downwards, paying special attention to the hair tips where damage happens the most.

Environmental damage: Constant exposure to the environmental elements, such as pollution, constant exposure to the sun, swimming, etc., could lift the cuticle away from the cortex and cause the cuticle to be scaly or uplifted.
Chemical damage: Chemical treatments such as bleaching, coloring and perming/rebonding, if not followed by proper after–care treatment, could break or even strip away the cuticle.
Mechanical damage: Even rubbing or back-combing your hair, because of the rigorous motion of 'moving' hair back–and–forth, could damage the cuticle and cause it to fold. Damaged hair scrambles the reflected light in all directions and gives low shine. Exposure to heat (such as from hair dryers and flat irons) further damages the hair cuticle, and in extreme cases could cause the cuticle to bubble.
In fact, each strand of hair has its own memory, recording the accumulated damage it experiences over time, until it is cut off. This backlog of damage means that the ends of your hair are the most damaged and weakest of all.

The Pantene 3 Minute Miracle Treatment is a single–use rinse–off treatment. It contains ingredients designed to revitalize the damaged cuticle of the hair by helping to restore the protective layer that mimics hair's naturally–occurring "F–layer" of 18–MEA fatty acids. Best results if used at least once a week.

The cuticle is the outermost layer of the shaft and protects the hair structure. Its natural protective layer of fatty acid 18–MEA molecules, or what is commonly known as the "F–layer", gives hair its smoothness, softness and hydrophobic properties, which is important to ensure hair remains healthy–looking.
In healthy, undamaged hair, the 18–MEA fatty acid arranged on its outermost cuticle, giving the layer a positive charge (or hydrophobic) and plays a critical role in providing hair its smooth, soft feel. As damage builds up, more of this layer is lost, making the hair surface more negatively charged (or hydrophilic) and hair can be dull.
BT Mac, one of the unique ingredients in the Pantene 3–Minute Miracle formula, has a strong positive head which then deposits on the negatively charged hair surface, forming an artificial F–layer which mimics the behavior of the hair's natural F–layer, thus restoring the cuticle. Therefore hair surface becomes healthier and feels softer and smoother.

One of the ways to further protect your hair from damage is to deep condition you hair on a regular basis. If you use heat appliances to style your hair (such as a curling iron, flat iron or hair dryer) or if you tend to be exposed to the environment often (e.g. sun, heat, swimming), especially the hot and humid weather in Singapore, it is important to choose a shampoo with good, cleansing ingredients combined with a good conditioner which will help protect hair from further damage.
While the shampoo helps clean the hair and scalp, the conditioner (with ingredients such as silicones and fatty alcohols) helps protect the hair cuticle. If you have chemical treatments done on your hair (e.g. perming, rebonding, coloring), ensure you condition at least once or twice a week, to help moisturize and strengthen your hair.
